About The Dharma House
The purpose of the house is to encourage metta, a pali term meaning great interest and great friendship. This is a powerful antidote to afflictive emotions found at the root of discord and suffering. This is central to Dharma and the rationale for the House.
It is our objective to provide an environment that will allow residents and visitors the opportunity to make this discovery for themselves.
You can find further information on some of The Dharma House activities under our 'Whats Happening' section, including visiting teachers, weekly meditations, as well as up-coming courses and retreats.
Mission Statement
- To practice wisdom, compassion and non-clinging awareness for the benefit of all beings.
- Wisdom – insight into the nature of innate mind and phenomena, the antidote to confusion, hatred, greed, pride and jealousy (traditionally referred to as the “five poisons”).
- Compassion – the unselfish resolve to remove the suffering and the causes of unhappiness of all living beings without exception.
- Non-clinging awareness – clear awareness without attachment to thoughts and sense objects.
And the unity of all three, which is the unobstructed realisation of the interconnectedness, openness, richness and diversity of all life. These are ancient skills for those who love life, to develop that love and to share it with others.
