Course Description:

Lama Mark will give more teachings from texts by the great 8th century teacher and yogi, Padmasambhava, individual meditation guidance and group practice sessions. This retreat will be a great opportunity to learn the essence of meditation, mind yoga and some physical movements to bring about peacefulness and bright awakeness.

Throughout the course, Lama Mark will point to and instruct on the essence of true meditation; the natural continuum of mindfulness and lucid awareness inherent in every moment, in every one of us. We come to discover, through sustained concentration merged with loving-kindness, a compassionate, vividly aware mind free of mental obstacles and delusions. Empowerments to be announced.

A Typical day of retreat: 

Breakfast; a class followed by meditation interviews; individual practice; lunch; individual practice; a two hour group Continuum of Awareness session; individual practice; supper; class and or group meditation; individual practice; sleep. 

Makarora is a beautiful location in the South Island of New Zealand.  The teachings are held at the Makarora Homestead with accommodation at the Homestead and Makarora Resort – both provide quality, comfortable locations in the ancient healing valley of Waitaha surrounded by the beautiful Mount Aspiring World Heritage Park.  For more info, visit the website at www.makarora.com

Registrations:

Registrations are essential.  Places will be allocated on a first come basis.

Costs:

Three weeks accommodation and food (one person per room) is NZ$1385. 

Please note these prices are excluding Dana, which should be budgeted as guide outlined below.  There may be a limited option for a 1 or 2 week attendance – We will receive expressions of interest.  The Lama will decide whether either is appropriate.  No guarantees!

Accommodation & Food: 

Every room will be a single room.  There will be a set menu of varied and wholesome, well-balanced meals. If you have dietary requirements for health reasons, we will try to accommodate you. However, catering for a large range of different people is a lot of work, so please make sure your requests are not whims of the moment. (If you do have special needs, please inform Alan at the Dharma house.)

Deposits:

An initial deposit of $350 is to be deposited by 20th December 2007 with a further deposit of $350 by 20th  January 2008.  Deposits are non-refundable and are a requirement to secure a place.

Dana (Donations to the Teacher):

There is no set amount but this is the teacher’s only source of livelihood, so your generosity is appreciated. As a guideline, $20 per day would be reasonable.  Anyone unable to contribute this sum may donate within his or her means. Let your donations reflect not only what you can afford but also the effort, hard work and years of dedication that have been spent in order that you might receive the great benefit of these teachings.
